Once again, a webcomic under my watch goes fizzle. It’s been in limbo for the longest time, as these things tend to go, and I don’t want to keep anyone left waiting for a definite declaration. So here it is: I’m done with webcomics. Mind you, I’m not done with comics in general, and I’m certainly not done with art, but the regular-update, Penny Arcade-class webcomics have been nothing but toxic for my relationship with art. (Disclaimer: that was not a knock against PA). With the set scheduling, there’s just not enough time for me to tell the stories I want to tell, or draw them how I want to. I don’t know why it took me this long to admit this to myself, maybe I just felt like I’ve come too far to turn back, but it doesn’t make sense for me to keep torturing myself and refusing to do things the way I want to. Maybe that’s just because in the past several months, I’ve been relearning just HOW to do what I want, and with that knowledge came the understanding of just how corrosive these webcomics have been to me.

What this means for RuneSpark is that there will be no more this-many-updates-a-week schedules. And once again, it’ll be rebooted – but for the last time. It’ll be remade the way I want it, or it’ll prove itself to be something I didn’t want to begin with. More importantly, though, it won’t be the front-and-center of everything I do. I’ve turned my focus towards traditional art, and this has proven to be FAR more fruitful than my webcomics have ever been, so I think I’m ready to bring that to my Hapoppo identity. Ch. 2-42: Philosophical Discussion

Y’know, you pretty much expect hackers and other assorted jerkweeds to sabotage your projects, but the manufacturers themselves? First WordPress destroys my site, and now Kodak decides for me that I don’t need the monochrome function for my scanner, which is why things look so funky here. If they would have waited five weeks it wouldn’t have mattered, but I still have this chapter to finish out, and I’d really rather not have to suddenly switch the look of the comic mid-chapter. From now on, if a program has a software update, I should really just ignore the freaking thing.

In the meantime, I’ll be looking for a solution to the problem, and if I find one I’ll replace this version of the strip with a cleaner one. Suddenly I’m really looking forward to chapter 3…
